331 Cooper Street
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Total Size: 52,000 sq.ft. (4800 sm)
Chmiel Architects led the adaptive reuse of 331 Cooper Street, transforming a vacant 1960s office building into a modern eight-storey residential development in downtown Ottawa.
The project features 49 contemporary rental suites, a new penthouse level, and a landscaped rooftop terrace, all supported by a lightweight steel structure. Designed with both functionality and sustainability in mind, the building includes a gym, secure bicycle storage, and an expanded, reimagined lobby that enhances the resident experience from the moment of entry.
With its renewed purpose, 331 Cooper contributes to the revitalization of Ottawa’s urban core, offering thoughtfully designed living spaces within walking distance of transit, shops, and services, while also reducing its environmental footprint through adaptive reuse.
Chmiel Architects is proud to support sustainable urban intensification through innovative design that gives new life to existing buildings.
